Firstly, thank you to Heather for the information on Gwernllwynchwyth House.

I've seen the photos on the History section of the website, and it's a shame that such a fantastic house fell into disarray. I've found a number of articles on the Swansea Council website mentioning the house, and the family that lived there which is really interesting.

I've also seen on the Swansea Council website that there is planning permission granted for the site of G'chwyth House, which has been extended to 2014. I can see that planning was rejected on a number of occasions over the last 30 years. Anyone know anything more about this?

I believe that this site is to house 28 detached houses but has been delayed because of the economic situation. Similarly, with that large piece of open land infront of the Welsh School at the lower end of Heol Las Road. 800 houses are due to be built in that vicinity. A lot of extra people and cars!

The Developer has started work on the Gwernllwynchwyth House site. It looks like the whole area which is full of Mature trees and home to lots of wildlife next to a VERY busy motorway is being torn up and destroyed in readiness for building yet more houses in Birchgrove.

So are you happy that this is happening? Good for employment? Bad for the environment? Have your say. . . . . .

I think as resident of Birchgrove, and new to the Forum, it is shamefull that we have allowed these money grabbing, over priced Builders, to buy up all the land and history around here. There are other places with land they can build on, I have walked and played as a Child around the site of the old Coach House, and you really get a feeling from those who once lived there, I am also disgraced that they expect us to home a "Travellers" site, My Husbands Brother is a high ranking Fire Officer, and he remembers only to well what they did to the Morganite Traveller's Site, for those not familiar with the area, A proper "Travellers" site was built in the 1990's just behind Asda Morriston. They were given shower's, a wash room, toilet's etc. And with in a few weeks the place went up in flames, 8 tinker familes had moved into the shower block and destroyed it by cooking in there. I feel as a born and bred Llansamlet/Birchgrove lady that enough is enough, and we need to STOP the builders from taking anymore of our History, whats next are they going to knock down Scotts Pit? As lets face it Hale could get at least 100 over priced Match Boxes on that land!!!! It makes me so mad. And if they want to make a pretty penny rebuild the Coach House and open it as a Museum.!! I have seen only one Picture of this when it was in its full glory and what a house it must have been, My very own Mother remembers playing in it as a child as the original owner;s had left it unoccupied, Mam tells me there was still furniture in it at that point. So come on lets save our Coach House....
